Secretary-Rehab
Overview:

PRN (as needed)
Days M-F periodic coverage as needed in 8 hr shifts
The Secretary functions as an integral part of the rehabilitation team and has a responsibility for clerical duties and assisting therapy staff. The secretary is expected to perform tasks that may include scheduling, receptionist, processing patient related records and charges, department record keeping, typing and ordering supplies.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Excellence
Set-up and maintain all patient/client files.
Schedule patient/clients through central scheduling system for therapy staff.
Greet patient/clients, handle incoming phone calls, process and distribute mail.
Prepare, collect and input billing information as needed.
Order and maintain office supplies for clinic.
Perform typing/computer duties.
Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly by maintaining and practicing hospital and department policies and procedures regarding safety and infection control.
Assist therapist with patient care activities as needed under direct supervision of therapist.
Development & Patient Education
Performs as a member of the Rehabilitation Department through joint interventions, communication and quality assurance programs and meetings.
Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient/family needs including age, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential and actual concerns immediately.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of one stroke awareness/recognition activity upon completion of orientation and annually
Experience:
License(s)/Certification(s):
Must possess and maintain current BLS certification or obtain certification within three months from date of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Multicultural sensitivity
Basic Computer skills
Customer/patient focused.
