The Patient Care Technician and/or Student Nurse Assistant is responsible for providing patient care related services and clerical support under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or a Licensed Practical Nurse including, but not limited to services relative to hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, elimination, vital signs, safety, and supply and office maintenance.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. Provides patient care related support including services relative to hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, elimination, vital signs, data collection, and safety as directed by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse per established departmental guidelines and competencies.
2. Documents appropriately into patient record charting based on skill level and follows established standards and guidelines of the patient care services department.
3. Maintains appropriate supplies and equipment on the division and performs inventory and ordering as directed by the Department Director or designee.
4. Performs communication and clerical duties promptly and accurately. Answers call lights and the telephone system in a timely manner. Enters charges on the computer and performs chart audits as directed and per established department procedures.
5. Successfully completes job duties within assigned shift, accepting reassignments to other areas as needed, keeping RN and LPN informed of pertinent information that may require follow-up.
6. Demonstrates unit-defined competencies as required
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
In order to be eligible you must have one of the following:
C.N.A. Certification;
Current Nursing student with completion of nursing fundamentals course within 90 days of employment;
Previous documented work experience as a PCT, Nurse Assistant, EMT or Surgical Tech within the last 3 years or
Successful completion of an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel program within the last 3 years.
License - Certification - Registration (Text Only):
BLS required.
Experience:
CNA, PCT or Advanced patient care training, OR
Current enrollment in a professional nursing education program (applicant must provide a letter from the registrar at his/her school indicating current enrollment in good standing)
Recent hospital experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, visitors and staff.
Ability to manage time and organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards.
Reporting Relationships (Text Only):
Reports directly to: Nurse Manager
Working Conditions:
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary.
Ability to transfer and move patients who vary with ability to assist weighing 200+ lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40 lbs using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary.
Manual dexterity, coordination and skillful use of hands when working with patient and equipment which may include pushing buttons, adjusting dials, turning on/off switches, buckling, holding and positioning limbs/body parts, etc.
Ability to physically perform necessary documentation in writing or use of tape recorder.
