Electronic Controls Hardware Engineer

DESCRIPTION:Electronic Control Units continue to be an area of growth in the global automotive market. A company is looking for exceptional candidates to be part of the Electronic Control Unit Hardware component solutions. In addition to supporting the Bill of Design imperatives, the candidate will be part of a team that gives the technical direction to other engineers or engineering support personnel. This Technical Specialist will deliver common business and technology solutions. Will ensure reuse and technical excellence of engineering solutions and components. Works with the key stakeholders from execution and support teams to ensure common implementation of strategies in a key area of the ECU HW COE. This includes positions in key areas such as Requirements & Specifications, Design & Analysis, Partnership Development, Tools, and Operations.Key Responsibilities:

* Create and maintain deliverables and processes according to the key area assignment of the ECU HW COE

* Contribute and Document best practices that enable (BOD) imperatives

* Find and deliver complexity optimization

* Provide enablers for software reuse including potential methods to separate HW and SW sourcing

* Support overall reuse and strategies across all control modules.

* Develop and maintain templates and/or tools, Support or define enterprise sourcing strategies & business models based on a key area of assignment

* Provide solutions by working with the feature owners.

* Work with executive teams to ensure that the COE strategic vision is implemented in ECU designs

* Provide Technical Review, Field Service/Manufacturability, Supplier Quality Support and Participate in controller benchmarking model and develop GM's Core Values and Winning Behaviors.

You could be working in one or more of the following areas:1. Operations

* Create and maintain the ECU HW COE process of engineering

* Develop and maintain PFMEA, Validation, and process of Engineering best practices related to ECUs

* Provide support as needed for field service/manufacturability, new supplier quality processes, supplier plant audits, and VHIL activities related to ECUs

* Work cross-functionally as the main channel of communication for BOD/BOM, best practices, common solutions, and metrics for ECUs

2. Tools

* Develop and maintain templates for new hardware requirements, specifications, and best practices to enable common software

* Design of new common software debugging tools applicable to multiple ECU families

* Support of configuration management tool to document ECU HW relationships

* Create and maintain a library of common ECU designs and elements

3. Requirements and Specifications

* Analyze complex systems and create electronic hardware requirements for sourcing and implementation

* Create and maintain a library of common ECU requirement elements

* Create and maintain a library of commodity-specific ECU requirement elements

* Create and maintain Statement of Requirements (SOR) templates

4. Design and Analysis

* Perform worst-case analysis, create design guidelines and reference circuit designs

* Optimize the designs for ECU hardware by working along with the project management team

* Help understand the dependencies and limitations of the hardware

* Collaborate with internal and external teams to create and maintain Bill of Design and Best practices

5. Partnership Development

* Establish enterprise-wide sourcing strategies for most cost-effective ECU designs

* Align technology roadmaps across ECU hardware domains

* Assess Supplier capability to enable leveraging across ECU domains and establish criteria to assess new Suppliers

* Establish a methodology to separate and perform the ECU HW and SW sourcing separately
