Desktop Operations Analyst

Position Summary:

The Desktop Architect’s role is to strategically design, implement and support scalable client deployment and management solutions to support the goals and objectives of the organization. Core organizational functions within the arena of the enterprise desktop architect includes but are not limited to:

Software package creation

Tier III Support

Desktop Operating System Patching

Standard Desktop Image Maintenance

Maintenance of Role Based Desktop Profiles

Client Device Standards

Client Peripheral Standards

Support workstations utilizing the organization’s standard management strategy and tools.

Implementation of processes to support client deployment and management standards

This individual will gain organizational commitment for all systems and software plans, evaluate, select and implement technologies required to complete those plans.

Essential Responsibilities:


Vendor/Tool Management: Responsible for working with vendors to maintain tools as well as working to implement new features and functions as directed.

Strategy & Planning: Design and implement solutions to support the long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate systems and softwareEnsure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

Provide training and assistance as needed.

Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in client management and deployment solutions including analysis of cost reduction and technical advancement opportunities.

Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.

Acquisition & Deployment: Where applicable, design, develop, and implement end-to-end integrated systems.Make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.

Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.

Operational Management: Consult with end-users, clients, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development.Model business and system processes based on findings through use case scenarios and workflow diagrams.

Execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.

Develop, document, communicate, and enforce policies for standardizing systems and software.

Package and deploy software

Perform software distribution and patch management for operating systems and applications.

Provide Tier 3 support as needed.

Technology Management: Support a geographically diverse global organization utilizing some or all of the following subject matter areas:

Experience in the following technical areas is required:

Windows XP/Windows10Configuration and administration

Office 2016/Office O365Configuration, administration, automated deployment planning/design and migration

Software packaging with MSI or virtual formats

Client hardware and peripherals:Driver management

Client device hardware selection

Active Directory and Group PolicyKnowledge of application of these technologies to support centralized management.

Basic knowledge of Active Directory User and Computer (ADUC) and Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) management tools.

Experience in any of the following subject matter areas is desired:

Windows 10Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK)


Windows Image maintenance

MDT 2010

Software packaging experience with App-V

SCCM 2016

Remote desktop support experience

VBScript (VBS) or PowerShell experience

Desktop VirtualizationVMware VDI, Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), Microsoft Hyper-V or Citrix

Thin Clients

Windows Client OS upgrade/migration planning and execution

User State Migration Tool (USMT)

Preferred Certifications:

Microsoft Technology Specialist (MSTS) for Windows 7 OR System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)


Position Requirements:


College Degree in computer science, information sciences or related field and 4-6-Years’ Experience OR 6-8 Years’ of I.T. experience in a distributed I.T. environment consisting of 1000+ workstations.

Carry a Smartphone 24X7 for the purpose of escalation

Exceptional knowledge of computer hardware.

Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering and analysis.

Understanding of automated remote client administration techniques and concepts.

Proven experience in client deployment and support methodologies.

Deep-seated experience with desktop and server operating systems.

Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot hardware and software.

Strong knowledge of software evaluation principles and practices.

1 year experience creating and deploying software packages in MSI and\or virtual formats.

Knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy applications as they apply to client management.

Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

Exceptional ability to understand the organization’s goals and objectives and to design and implement solutions to support those goals and objective.

Emphasis on integration of automated administration for all implemented solutions.

Knowledge of software packaging best practices and techniques.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent technical support documentation skills.

Strong interpersonal and consultative skills.

Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required.

Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
