Logistics 3PL Manager-Remote



 



This is a remote role, with the preferred candidate being located in the Parsippany, NJ, Cincinnati, OH, or Philadelphia, PA areas.



 



 



Under the general supervision of the North America Logistics Procurement Leader, the role owns, leads, manages and directs transportation activities for the North American Businesses.  This includes surface transportation and warehousing and optimization, execution, measurement, and carrier and 3PL performance reviews.  The incumbent will provide leadership and direction with full accountability for all transportation solutions.  Understanding the delivery creation process, approach, and SOP’s, is important to drive standardization, automation and a consistent, reliable transportation process.    



 



The incumbent is expected to have strong leadership skills.  A proven ability to set, define, and deliver a strategic vision. Extensive experience in Logistics - transportation and warehousing including managing 3PL relationships and negotiating contracts.  Ability to achieve targeted goals and to deliver on the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).  He/She are expected to set aggressive targets to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved while minimizing total landed costs including inbound and outbound transportation costs, and transfers among sites.



 



TRANSPORTATION & WAREHOUSING:  Support strategic vision of category strategy of surface transportation and distribution model.  Conduct freight optimization for both inbound and outbound transportation, determine best mode for shipping based on lanes and service level requirements, determine best alternatives to reduce costs while improving service levels.  Conduct regular meetings with strategic carriers to review performance.  Leads internal and external benchmarking against industry bodies, competitors, and peers, and best practices identification and implementation.  Drive KPI metrics and understand root cause on why changes may occur.  Identify and share Best Practices among Supply Chain and Operations  in order to improve distribution performance and reduce distribution costs. Analyze and drive optimization for distribution network.



3PL:  Drive toward automation and improved visibility with 3PL partners. Conduct regular business meetings (quarterly) with Third Party Logistics (3PL) providers.  40 million annualized transport spend, domestic for LTL and truckload.  Drive productivity through data analysis, process reviews, and action plans.  Determine applicable key metrics and understand root causes, correctives actions and business impacts.  Communicate internally and drive changes with the sites and 3PLs.  Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to implement Best Practices to support inventory reduction and minimize waste streams.  Evaluate best ways to flow product including slotting, golden zones, bin locations, etc.  Manage customer return and complaint resolution process. 



TRANSPORTATION PROCESS & SYSTEMS:  High process orientation individual whom will collaborate with other SBU’s and Supply Leaders on Best Practices to leverage logistics models, TMS solutions Lean Logistics ideas, etc. .  Participate as part of transportation procurement team negotiations and develop 3PL operating models in order to provide the optimum logistics. Ensure that the distribution model in place aligns with Customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and where there are difference put in a process that enables the Business to achieve SLA expectations.  Work with Customs Compliance Team to ensure all import and export shipment activity is compliant with regulations.  Drive the best TMS solution and roll out across all applicable Sun Chemical locations.  Work directly with Commercial, Customer Service and Procurement Customers to drive improved logistics models including order patterns and ship cycles.  



KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:  3PL KPI’s include OTIF (On Time and In Full shipments to the Customer), Total cost management of freight and warehousing activities (Distribution Costs), Warehouse and Transportation metrics such as productivity (pounds shipped per manhour), cost per shipment, touches, order sizes and impacts to warehouse operations, damage, complaints, etc., Freight metrics such as freight spend for product shipped by site, transfers, mode percentage by site, order size impact to freight costs, number of deliveries per site, preferred ship site metrics, etc.



PEOPLE & ORGANIZATION:  Work closely with the Supply Chain team in order to have the optimal service model possible.  Collaborate with other Business Functions.  Influencing and managing with data skills are needed to be successful in this role.    Instilling a culture of excellence and continuous, sustainable improvement in productivity, fixed costs, and operating margins.  



 



Position Requirements:

 



BS degree in Supply Chain, Manufacturing Management, Business, or a related field; MBA or related advanced degree preferred such as APICS certification.



Minimum ten (10) years of proven experience in Logistics and /or Supply Chain with growing responsibility and high customer focus.



Knowledge of surface transportation modes, 3PLs, distribution networks, warehousing strategy and Best Practices.



Quantitative data mining and analytical skills required in Excel (and SAP data preferred).



 



SAP Systems experience (PTF/PTD) – TMS, APO, SNP, MRP, DRP, WM, etc.-strongly preferred



Experience with 5S, Six Sigma, and Lean Logistics is also preferred.



Strong change management, collaboration, leadership, verbal, and written communication skills.



Ability to develop presentations that facilitate the decision-making process and drive action with project plan
