Director, Inflight Base Ops and Catering


The Director, Inflight Base Ops and Catering, leads Inflight Base Operations to meet performance goals, drive improvements to reduce costs and oversee development of Inflight Base Managers outside of focus bases.  Additionally, they lead a team in driving all Inflight Services catering performance and onboard service-related activity.

Ensure compliance with Spirit and regulatory policies and procedures in a safe and professional manner.  Leads and directs base activities to achieve all performance goals including safety, reliability, guest satisfaction, Team Member satisfaction and budget goals.

Leads a team of Inflight managers and Supervisors who are responsible for all base flight attendant activities and performance.

Deliver superior operational performance by leading cross functional teams in the execution of efficient, safe and secure day-to-day Inflight operations.

Orchestrate the delivery of exceptional guest service through the creative management of people, processes, policies and technology.

Tracks base Operations performance and develops corrective actions to improve.

Mentor and develop direct reports for succession plan.

Develop strategic initiatives to raise engagements and operational performance.

Collaborates with other Operations leaders (Airport Operations, Flight Operations, etc.) to effectively manage on-time departures.

Drives solution-based recommendations and improvements to ensure integrity and success of the catering operation and its processes.

Leads and drives Spirit’s catering operations performance and the quality control process; understands, champions, and adheres to the catering operational model.

Ensures routine visibility and communication with the flight attendant group, base leaders, and catering services vendors and stakeholders to ensure onboard services priorities, changes, and needs are supported across the organization.

Interprets and reports performance Catering and Onboard Services metrics to key stakeholders (internal and external) to drive accountability and escalate performance degradation (as necessary) in a timely manner.

Serves as the point of contact for the catering vendor leadership in the event escalation of concerns is necessary.

Oversees specification and product changes and partners with Inflight Communications to drive flight attendant engagement related to catering.

Ensures there is routine visibility and communication with the flight attendant group, base leaders, and catering services vendors and stakeholders to ensure onboard services priorities, changes, and needs are supported across the organization.

Ensures compliance to random audit procedures which drives the quality metrics.

Permeate the importance of safe operating practices throughout the organization, empowering each Crew Member with the authority and responsibility to stop the operation if the safety of personnel or assets is in jeopardy. Live the Safety Always culture.

Serves as an interface with FA unions (AFA) and is responsible for achieving and maintaining local union relationships.

Responsible for hearing and delivering decisions on grievances.

Develops and monitors base strategies and goals and provides input to base budget.

Directs the recognition and counseling of flight attendants; provides coaching and feedback to flight attendants on service delivery, provides recognition for superb performance, and holds them accountable when service expectations are not met.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs, or technical developments). 



Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

10+ years of experience.

Must be a qualified NK Flight Attendant.

Knowledge of Part 121 Operations.

Knowledgeable and well-versed in AFA CBA language and can interpret all provisions accurately.

Proficiency with Excel, Word and Power Point applications.

Proven written and verbal communication skills.

Naturally curious and loves to drive change that improves results.

Strong motivation and leadership skills with the ability to lead and influence people.

Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Domestic & International travel approximately 50% of time.

Exert over 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Must be present at the Worksite 100% of the time.
