Microbiologist Food Safety Manager



$110-125K + BONUS

Our Columbus, Ohio Food manufacturing client is looking to hire a Microbiologist Food Safety Manager. The Food Safety Manager works with the Food Safety Department, Technical Services, Operations and Research & Development to ensure regulatory and internal food safety standards are met in all facilities as well as co-manufacturers and vendors. This position assures that products meet customers microbiological requirements.


* Responsible for execution of FSMA related activities

* Execute review of new ingredients for food safety and quality requirements

* Provide ongoing maintenance and review of ingredient hazard analysis to ensure compliance with FDA Appendix 1

* Provide guidance, oversight and direction of facility Food Safety and HACCP plans including the execution of Food Safety Plan Verification Audits of manufacturing facilities, development of food safety plan templates and justifications.

* Responsible for execution of baking validations and other verification activities as required

* Partner with Manufacturing and Corporate Quality and Regulatory Teams to provide food safety guidance and support, including:

* Food safety evaluation of new processing methods and changes to manufacturing processes

* Environmental pathogen swab investigations

* Foreign material investigations

* Trend, summarize and highlight areas opportunities from sanitation audits

* Food safety risk assessments

* Consult cross-functionally on projects involving sanitary design of equipment and facilities

* Establish RTE requirements and designations for the company portfolio

* Provide customer requested food safety documentation

* Develop strategies and assessments and provide ongoing communication to the organization to further foster food safety culture

* Draft Food Safety guidance and training materials


* Minimum of bachelors degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred

* Comprehensive knowledge of food microbiology, food safety hazards and controls

* Ability to assess ingredient risk

* Minimum of 5 years work experience in the food industry.

* Experienced in GMP, HACCP, and Quality Systems auditing

* Certified Preventive Controls for Human Food (PCQI) or HACCP

* Comprehensive knowledge of food safety requirements (GMP, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI).

* Experience in food manufacturing environments

* Strong written and verbal skills.
