Microbiology Lab Manager for Oral Tobacco R&D


Do you have experience working with microbiology laboratory work including factory support projects, stability studies, and non-routine product development? Do you have a Bachelor's Degree in a Science related field or 2+ years of industry experience in microbiology? If so, we want to speak with you!


We are seeking a Microbiology Manager to join our New Product Assessment team in Richmond, VA.

What you will be doing:

• Manage and schedule microbiology laboratory work to include stability studies, non-routine product development and factory support projects.

• Manage, review and report data from all projects within the microbiology and molecular biology laboratories.

• Expertise in working in an ISO accredited laboratory to include maintenance of documentation and management of ISO methods.

• Draft and manage non-routine microbiology projects including lab scheduling and drafting detailed work instructions, methods and project plans.

• Ability to research and implement new microbiology techniques, automation experience and equipment/consumables to support on-going continual improvement efforts.

• Responsible for training of lab technicians.

• Participate in cross-functional projects related to new and upcoming work; coordinate work and manage the progress through the laboratory process.

What we want you to have:

• Science based Bachelor's degree (microbiology, molecular biology, biology) or equivalent directly-related experience (minimum of 2 years industry experience in microbiology)

• Expertise in aseptic technique, dilutions, microbiology plating, plate counting, media preparation, gram stain identifications and interpretation of sequencing results.

• Understanding of molecular biology laboratory methods to include qPCR analysis and other molecular based procedures.

• Ability to manage molecular biology experiments and laboratory.

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• High level proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint

• Previous experience in project management a plus

• Strong written and oral communication skills, to include reports and presentations

• Ability to lead without authority
