Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) (PRN)

Job Summary:

Serve as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in the outpatient and inpatient Rehabilitation Services Department at Cherokee Nation Hastings Hospital and Clinic.  The SLP will focus on preventing, assessing, diagnosing and treating speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.

Job Duties:

Evaluate and treat speech, language, and cognitive disorders, resulting from neurologic etiologies, e.g., traumatic brain injury, neurosurgery, stroke, or neurologic diseases. Provide the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with difficult and complex communication disorders that involve speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, resonance, paradoxical vocal cord dysfunction, etc. Diagnose deficits of speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing through the selective use of specialized tests and instrumentation. Formulate appropriate long and short term therapeutic goals specific to the patient's specific communication deficit(s). Plan and execute appropriate therapy programs, using appropriate evidence-based therapy practices. Participate in inter-disciplinary staffing and rounds, e.g., traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular accident, physical medicine, rehabilitation, and referral teleconferencing, as required. Counsel the patient, caregivers, and providers regarding the effects of brain injury, neurologic diseases, and medical and/or surgical procedures relative to communication and cognition. Design and update protocols for use in the diagnostic evaluation of speech, language and cognitive disorders of neurologic origin. This position may be required to travel to outlying clinics. Other duties may be assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.



Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university; no substitutions. Master's Degree preferred.



At least six months experience.


COMPUTER SKILLS:                                                       

An individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software.



Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. The mandatory education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. The SLP will require an active, current, valid, and unrestricted Speech Pathology license, registration, and certification in the State of Oklahoma. A certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). 



Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information. Must meet and maintain periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.


Acute care weekend coverage rotation required. Potential outlying clinic coverage.
