Scientist 2 - Biology/Microbiology

Lab Scientist

The Associate Scientist will join a dynamic team to develop and implement efficient sample operations processes for clinical trials, external collaborations, and other studies. The candidate will also develop and execute in vitro and ex vivo assays to support translational research for immunology portfolio programs. Further, the candidate will operate in a highly collaborative environment with members of Translational Sciences and partner organizations and follow best practices for sample management and data integrity.

This hybrid position will reside within the Immunology Translational Sciences department and requires a highly motivated and skilled candidate to assist in the clinical progression of innovative therapies across immunologic diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing drug discovery and clinical projects. The candidate will possess strong organization and communication skills to support clinical sample management and demonstrate the ability to design, shape, implement Client experiments and interpretation of data.

Operations responsibilities are as follows:

Serve as a key member of sample operations team to develop and implement efficient workflow for clinical sample management

Proficiency with Biological Specimen Inventory Software BSI

Sample aliquoting and labeling

Sample shipping: Preparation and completion of shipping documents for domestic and international sample shipments and complying with Shipping Department policies for shipments

Complete sample tracking tasks in BSI

Work with Biobank to monitor and destroy expired or withdrawn consent samples

Create BSI Job Aids and support Lab Scientists with BSI tasks as needed

Function as Biobank Liaison for group, attending meetings and communicating updates

Complete and monitor Sample Operations tracking documents

Lab Scientist Responsibilities are as follows:

Support biomarker assay development and execution using: Flow cytometry, RNA DNA purification, qPCR, ELISA, MSD, Singulex, Tissue Culture

Design and execute experiments to Client new biomarkers for portfolio assets

Analyze data and communicate results to project team in a timely manner

Partner with external partners as needed to support Immunology assets

Work closely with other lab-based personnel to ensure optimal laboratory environment collaboration, culture, safety, etc

Contribute to various projects outside of his/her own and collaborate with partners from all relevant functions

Work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under fixed timelines

Contribute to the preparation and submission of technical reports, prepare clear and concise summaries of their data and present to the project team and colleagues

On-call rotation for lab freezer, refrigerator, incubator temperature monitoring system alarms


B.A. or B.S. with 4+ years related experience OR M.S. with 1-2 years research experience academic or industry in required

Experience working with and managing clinical samples is required

Attention to detail is a must

Experience with electronic lab notebook

Comfort in ambiguity and flexibility to meet the growing needs of the team is required

Excellent communication skills to collaborate and empathize with team members of all backgrounds and geographies is required

Proficiency in using common data analysis and presentation tools, e.g., FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, Word, PowerPoint, Excel is required

Experience with in vitro and ex vivo assays is strongly preferred

Flow cytometry experience is highly preferred

Intellectual curiosity and excitement to learn new techniques and technologies is strongly preferred
