Pediatric Center, a service of Virginia Hospital Center, is dedicated to its mission to provide a Medical Home offering comprehensive, affordable, quality healthcare in a culturally-sensitive environment to children, birth through 18 years of age, living in Arlington County with family incomes at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Level. Located in a convenient, accessible location in South Arlington, APC features a full-time staff including pediatricians, nurse practitioners, nurses, care coordinators, and behavioral health professionals.


General office work; reception and secretarial duties related to the operation of a medical office primarily serving children of low-income families; and interpreting services for clinical staff during triage, exams and advice calls. The Medical Receptionist / Interpreter is guided by APC personnel policies and procedures. The incumbent's actions are controlled to a great degree by the needs of the patients, families, co-workers, providers and nurse practitioners. Follows dress code. Must attend staff meetings and participate in Quality Improvement meetings as required by the Clinic Director. The Medical Receptionist / Interpreter is an enthusiastic representative of APC. Must possess a pleasant temperament and establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families and co-workers. Must be a positive, problem solving team contributor. Must be familiar with basic terminology frequently used in a medical office setting. Ability to accept and benefit from constructive supervisory suggestions.

Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent. College diploma preferred. 

Two years of office/clerical experience preferred

Two years experience with Electronic Medical Records Software preferred

Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English


 Answers incoming phone calls and directs them to the most appropriate person; transfers phones line to and retrieves phones lines from the answering service; follows up on all messages received from the answering service

Recording phone messages accurately in EMR and sending messages to the appropriate department, indicating urgency if necessary. Understands and uses the phone and EMR system to its full potential

Maintaining EMR software; scheduling appointments

Enter patient payments received at the front desk for current and prior visits into the EMR patient account and prints system generated log. Alerts billing service of payments for prior visits

Reviews monthly past due reports from Billing Service with Clinic Director to determine possible write-offs and uncollectable accounts for uninsured patients following established APC policies and procedures

Provides interpreter assistance as required, ensuring that patient concerns are accurately conveyed to the clinical staff, and that clinical advice is conveyed to and understood by the parent/patient. Interpreting services may be used during telephone advice calls, triage, examinations and consultations. Translates written materials as requested
