Sr. Tax Associate



La Jolla, CA



 



JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Responsible for completing a variety of complex tax projects, including the preparation of tax returns, planning, and research.



Proactively manage project deadlines to ensure delivery of work products based on client and management team expectations and statutory deadlines. Openly communicate with senior associates, managers, and partners about the status and progress of tasks and projects.



Preparing and reviewing individual and business (corporate and partnership), and non-profit returns involving consolidated returns, multi-state, and international issues.



Assist in the preparation of various compliance returns such as 1099 year-end tax information reporting; monthly or quarterly sales tax reports; annual business license and personal property tax returns.



Research and consult on various tax matters; utilize tax software to prepare and process returns and research tax matters.



Identify trends and patterns in client information and financials, identify potential problems, and bring them to the manager and partner's attention.



Respond to inquiries from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other tax authorities.



Interface with tax authorities to assist with gathering information for local, state, and federal tax audits.



Review tax returns done by staff and makes actionable recommendations on return preparation.



Provide oversight, training, and support to the staff and promote open communication with their manager and partner.



Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues and clients, when necessary.



Develop, maintain, and continue to improve knowledge of local, state, and federal tax rules, regulations, and guidance.



 



QUALIFICATIONS:



3-to 5 years of relevant experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate tax and public accounting experience, is required.



CPA Certification is required.



Clear, concise, and professional verbal and written communication skills.



Strong organization skills, detail-oriented and has the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment.



Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision in order to meet deadlines.



Strong sense of ownership for delivering high-quality service and excellent customer service, team-building, and time management skills.



Maintain the required level of technical knowledge.



Demonstrate proficiency in tax research and documentation.



Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.



Experience with accounting software packages QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, a plus.



Become familiar with the firm's tax preparation software.
