Assistant Manager Wheatley Farms and Arts Center

Overview:

AHRC Nassau empowers people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to live self-directed lives. As Long Island’s largest provider of accredited day habilitation and other services to over 2,200 individuals throughout Nassau County, we know that many people are seeking new, more expansive options in our region. Wheatley Farms and Arts Center is responding to this need with the creation of a safe, inclusive space for wellness activities with the power to bring us all back in touch with nature, creative expression, and community



Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: 



 



Assisting full-time Farm Manager with overall operation of a 2 ½ acre working farm



Feeding and caring for livestock (goats, sheep, pig, horses, chickens, ducks, etc.) and small animals



Receiving and storing feed, hay, and other supplies and materials.



Tending gardens on property—preparing soil, planting, weeding, harvesting, spreading mulch, watering, etc.



Assisting with general property maintenance—Trimming hedges, pruning bushes, weed-whacking,  spreading seed, etc.



Assisting with snow removal



Assist with providing instructions and lessons for children and adults with special needs



Assist with providing tours for visitors



 



Qualifications:

Qualified Driver’s license



Experience with livestock/farm animals



High School Diploma, college degree preferred



Flexible schedule and willing to work at least one weekend day regularly.
