The Senior Accounting Analyst plays a vital role in partnering with business leaders by providing meaningful insight related to financial results and KPIs for use in financial reporting and strategic operational decision making. In this role, the Senior Accounting Analyst gains an understanding of the business’s processes, reporting, and priorities and uses that knowledge to build analysis and reporting that aligns with business needs. In addition, as a member of POET’s centralized Financial Reporting and Accounting team, the Senior Accounting Analyst assists in financial statement, reconciliation, and journal entry review for monthly financial close and develops analysis, reporting, and process improvements for various accounting functions.


A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE:                        

Using financial and operational data to identify and clearly communicate key business drivers, operational assumptions, KPIs, emerging trends, and other key variables

Driving development of effective management reporting

Reviewing and analyzing financial results and providing valuable recommendations to business leaders in order to drive decision making and improve business performance

Completion of POET’s consolidated monthly financial reporting, including historical financial statements, compilation of forecasts and projections, and comparison of actual to forecasted results

Maintaining general ledger, including account analysis and reconciliation, and closing books monthly

Designing and implementing analytic tools

Independently identifying and developing process improvements for financial reporting, analysis, and accounting procedures

Partnering with stakeholders throughout the business – including POET’s operations teams, IT, and other areas of the finance team

Leading projects within the finance team

Supporting proper internal control structure throughout POET’s processes

Conducting special studies and developing/recommending method and procedures

May include supervising accounting staff and assigning work to others within the department

Fostering a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times

Maintaining a strong team environment and championing POET in the community



Strong analytical skills –you are able to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop and communicate actionable recommendations

Strong communication skills – both written and verbal

Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

You are a change agent – you hate the answer, “because we’ve always done it this way” and drive continual process improvement

You have excellent organizational skills, paired with the ability to independently make decisions that balance detailed accuracy with a focus on adding value for POET (ROI judgement of time/effort and value added)

You possess the ability and desire to learn, and become a proficient user of, new software programs

Bachelor’s degree in related field

5+ years of experience in accounting and/or financial analysis and knowledge of accounting and financial reporting systems

You are eager to learn and change the world – Never Satisfied

Specific physical requirements may include:Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
