OverviewSMBC is seeking a Vice President within our Corporate Research Department.
They will serve as an independent repository of information with the goal of supporting the growth initiatives of the Americas Division through research due diligence that aims to mitigate/reduce the bank's risk and enhance profitability.
Within this department, the Corporate Research Analyst works independently, conducting fundamental research on country and industry trends, gathering intelligence on assigned industries and constituents employing various resources.
The Analyst translates his/her findings into logical and actionable conclusions.
Research products are distributed widely within the Bank and the Analyst is expected to participate in both external and internal client meetings with some potential light travel.ResponsibilitiesThe Corporate Research Department (CRSD) Analyst is responsible for researching the trends of industries and corporations in the US, Canada and Latin America as well as addressing concerns and inquiries regarding the credit standing of corporate clients and project/specialized finance.
More specifically, CRSD is tasked with analyzing competitive positioning of corporate clients, their management teams, credit positioning, prospects and collateral values.
CRSD also seeks to gain business intelligence regarding activities that include corporate expansion, diversification, overseas investment, business combinations and technology tie-ups.
Furthermore, CRSD evaluates larger credit transactions and internal obligor gradings.
Collectively, CRSD helps Senior Management, Relationship Managers and Credit Officers with decision making.Principle duties include (1) Analysis of industry and corporate trends that leads to the publication of findings for internal use; (2) Obligor credit assessments concerning existing clients and/or industries; (3) Communication of industry information and opinion to Bank clients, relationship managers and/or the Corporate Advisory Department, and (4) Meeting with industry experts to acquire industry knowledge and improve expertise through development of a network of external industry and company contacts.Qualifications8 - 10 years of specialized experience in Financial Services either at an investment bank, ratings agency or buy-side outfit.
