Description Job Requisition: Z/OS Systems Engineer Job Description: The Civil group at Leidos has a career opening for a z/OS Systems Engineer on a USDA contract.
This role is primarily located in New Orleans, LA.
Install, configure, maintain functioning of z/OS products/systems/components/packages/processes/facilities/reports/utilities/system services and: Support Recovery, Integrity, Availability, Scalability, and Performance of NFC z/OS infrastructure and related components.
Manage patching cycles and application configurations within the z/OS infrastructure; upgrade/patch z/OS components as needed.
Our personnel will work with the Government to schedule patch releases to deploy the resolution and track the defect to closure.
Review/analyze all vendor-supplied releases before applying to the z/OS environments; monitor and ensure all infrastructure devices that are procured and connected to the USDA network are properly registered and approved by the Government.
Assist with system recovery/restore if a system failure occurs; manage contingency/disaster recovery in event of a disaster and quickly reconstitute services for full operability.
We will provide backups/restores of application-specific system components and ensure all environments can be re-established within the Government guidelines.
To support standard COOP procedures, we will work with Government contacts to review, update, and maintain a Risk Management Plan to recover from critical infrastructure failure and a Disaster Recovery Plan with backup and recovery processes/procedures approved by NFC.
Produce recovery After Action Reports for reporting incident, resolution, and root cause analysis on z/OS infrastructure-related issues.
Primary Responsibilities: Administrative The candidate is experienced in meeting all reporting and technical analysis documentation requirements as requested by the NFC staff.
Architecture The candidate is experienced in providing direction to technical teams.
Because of his subject matter expertise level of knowledge, he will function in an advisory role in identifying issues with NFC applications/systems and recommending new approaches, architectures, tools, processes to reduce potential production issues.
He has a thorough understanding of industry standards related to technology integration.
System Support Our candidate is experienced in all types of system support of the NFC infrastructure.
As an expert in his field, he will analyze system performance and submit reports with recommendations to avoid issues and to enhance the system through tuning opportunities, software upgrade planning, testing and implementation, and system space utilization analysis.
He is the team resource who will work with internal NFC server/network teams to recognize operational issues, research problems, suggest appropriate solutions, and implement chosen fixes within the context of the NFC Engineering Change Process (ECP).
He will develop plans, risk and impact analyses, and mitigation strategies before upgrades/migrations to newer Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software.
Usually requires BS and 8 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 10 years of prior relevant experience.
Have potential/ability to telework at least once per week with Manager's approval.
Basic Qualifications: Expert in Single or multiple technical disciplines.
Provides expert guidance and insight into specific technologies and their application and independently performs a variety of system design and integration tasks where a specific subject matter expertise is necessary.
Plans and performs research, design assessment, development, integration, and other assignments in specific technical arena.
Supervises broad team of systems engineers.
Responsible for highly complex technical/engineering areas.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to obtain Public Trust security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications: Skillset in order of priority: Cobol; SAS; CICS; IDMS; TCP/IP a plus; Z/OS utilities (CA and other); Assumption is they know TSO/ISPF, JCL, etc.
