Job Description This is an entry level position for a lawyer in Shell's Global Litigation Department, charged with handling litigation matters and regulatory challenges in the United States in a proactive, timely, cost effective and professional manner in furtherance of business objectives and protection of shareholder interests.
The successful candidate will be assigned to either the US Downstream Litigation or US Upstream Litigation group, with responsibility for both Downstream and Upstream matters on an as-needed basis.
The role will report to a Managing Counsel for US Litigation.
This role is accountable for the following: Handling a broad range of cases in a variety of areas under the supervision of more experienced lawyers and participating as a team member in handling more complex higher exposure cases; Identifying legal issues relevant to matters handled and acting with the appropriate urgency; Interviewing potential witnesses, gathering key documents, and working with business clients to develop, pursue, and achieve litigation objectives that consider the company's strategic goals; Communicating with and updating the business on significant developments in the matters handled in coordination with more experienced lawyers; Understanding and implementing the department's structured approach to avoiding, managing, resolving, communicating learnings from and anticipating trends in litigation matters; Under supervision of more experienced lawyers, managing the budget in handled matters, including costs and fees incurred with external counsel, experts and vendors, if any; Understanding the Shell Business Principles and Code of Conduct to the point of identifying and reporting potential breaches with an accurate sense of reality; Continuing accurate updating of matters in the Matter Management database; and, Collaborating with Shell lawyers in other departments in the Legal Organization regarding litigation risks potentially impacting their areas of responsibility.

Requirements Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
JD from an accredited US law school is required.
Minimum of one (1) years experience as a Licensed Attorney in good standing in Texas or another state in the United States (or have the ability to become immediately eligible to be admitted to the State Bar of Texas), with a preference for hands-on litigation experience.
Admission to the Texas Bar preferred.

Interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate and cooperate effectively with business clients and both internal and external stakeholders.
Advocacy skills and an ability to provide practical legal counsel to the businesses.
Ability to adhere to a budget and effectively manage outside legal resources.
