Novo Nordisk expects to double production of diabetes and obesity drugs over the next decade and are currently building a new 825,000 sq. ft diabetes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing fill and finish manufacturing facility. Our new $2 billion API facility is expected to be operational in 2020, with 700 full-time employees responsible for the fermentation, recovery and purification of insulin and GLP1 ingredients. Position Purpose

Provides leadership & guidance to Automation system management staff. Responsible for Automation system management & overseeing system managers, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) partners & other experts. Ensures system management processes & people are trained sufficiently to meet the system uptime requirements. Responsible for developing strategic goals & objectives in alignment with all relevant NN business plans. Drives improvement projects & system upgrades.


- Assists in developing strategic direction for the company's automation assets, monitors advancements in the industry, recommends & implements new technologies that help meet customer demands as well as production goals/agreements for the site

- Collaborates with department leadership with oversight of training, development, coaching, performance management, recruitment & employee relations

- Manages, leads & coaches teams of system managers to ensure a high performing collaborative team environment. Provides continuous feedback, structure & accountability to improve team performance

- Drives planning & ensure yearly activities according to our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are fulfilled

- Creates, develops, defines & implements dynamic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for areas of responsibility

- Actively involves & manages stakeholders (internal & external) at all levels across the organization, as well as in DK

- Ensures automation systems & processes are available, capable, accessible to meet production & business requirements

- Assists department manager in operating in accordance with internal & external regulations & procedures

- Follows all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties

- Other accountabilities as assigned

Required Qualifications

- BS/BA degree in directly related field (MA/MS degree preferred)

- Minimum of 6 years IT or Automation experience, preferably in a GMP manufacturing environment

Desired Qualifications

- Minimum of 6 years IT or Automation experience, preferably in a GMP manufacturing environment

- Minimum of 4 years of people leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to build a collaborative high performing team environment in a technical context & inspire & motivate employee through continuous feedback

- BMS, PCS, MES, PLC/SCADA, Historian. Preferably knowledge & experience with DeltaV, Syncade & Rockwell PLC systems

- Manufacturing Intelligence systems

- Infra structure & instrumentation

- Lean manufacturing techniques & methodologies

- System management life cycle

- Production support processes

- API production

- Project management & IT governance, including system management, business continuity & forecasting

Physical & Other Requirements

- Majority of work is performed in a normal office environment

- Ability to manage relationships with customers, local, corporate management, external vendors & contractors

- Ability to work flexible hours to support 24/7 manufacturing operation, as required

- Ability to work in & around an active construction site

- Ability to adjust schedule to work with colleagues in other time zones, if necessary

- International & domestic travel, as necessary
