Role: Flight Operations Officer

Location: Biggin Hill Airport

Contract: Permanent

Shifts: 4 On 4 Off – Earlies & Lates (No Nights)

Salary: £18,000 rising to £19,500 after six months

Company: The airport is a gateway for visiting aircraft to London, a cluster of aviation engineering companies providing aircraft servicing and support for aircraft and a centre for private flying and flying training.

The role: This is a responsible position within the airport’s Flight Operations team. An important and sometimes demanding role, the Flight Operations Assistant position provides a service which is vital to the safe, orderly and expeditious operation of the airport. You will provide pre-flight information to aircrew such as flight plans and weather reports and monitor and record airport arrivals and departures. You will liaise closely with other teams such as Executive Handling, Fuel and Air Traffic Control (ATC) Departments to ensure our customers receive an excellent customer service throughout and the services they require. This is a safety critical role which demands attention to detail, and the ability to work within set procedures.

This is a full time operational shift working role of 42 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Flight Planning

Filing flight plans in liaison with flight crews and the Central Flow Management Unit (CFMU) and the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)
Regularly reviewing weather conditions and reports and incorporating information into plans
Producing briefs for crews

Record Keeping

Recording all flight arrivals and departures at the airport
Ensuring information is provided to the Handling and Accounts Department for collection of airport landing fees
Maintaining accurate information on the Flight Operations system and other manual and computerized systems

Customer Service

Liaising with other departments to ensure that required services are provided in an efficient and timely manner e.g. with the Fuel Team and Airport Handling
Providing flight planning information to the ATC team to ensure they have all relevant details
Giving information in a clear and professional manner to crew and other airport teams, whether verbally, on the radio or in writing
Listening to customer needs and ensuring that these are met in an appropriate way

The Candidate:

You will enjoy delivering great customer service whilst at the same time ensuring that you follow laid down procedures and have the ability to deal with the unexpected in a logical way. You will be confident and able to make decisions in sometimes pressurised situations, dealing with a wide range of challenges, whilst always seeking to deliver great customer service. Working within a small team, you will be able to work on your own initiative and also be a self-motivated team player who enjoys building relationships with other key team members to ensure seamless service delivery. You will have good attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work. You will be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

Requirements:

Essential

A passion for aviation
A full UK driving license
Previous experience in a similar Aviation Operational and Customer Service role
For the duration of employment a current clean Criminal Record Check
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook and generally computer literate

Must be able to pass a basic medical examination

Desirable

A degree in a relevant discipline
First aid trained
