The role is within the Microbiology department which is divided into 5 operational sections: Heat Resistance and Decontamination; Analytical Services; Risk Assessment & Training; Safety & Spoilage and CLAS. There has been an increasing awareness of the threat of foodborne viruses, resulting in a growing area of business. You would be performing practical work related to virology and cell cultures (commercial analysis, R&D, client work etc.). You would also be involved in day to day maintenance of the virology laboratory and cell culture facility, including management and delivery of practical work performed in the laboratory. You would assist in the quality and accreditation and would be interacting with clients to design and execute confidential work.
-A Msc in Food Science/Virology or equivalent with at least 1 year of practical experience
-Experience with ISO accredited virus detection methodology and virology cell culture techniques, including real-time PCR
-Familiarisation with ISO17025 accredited laboratories, including managing UKAS accreditation processes, familiarity with BRC and ISO standards related to foodborne viruses, method validation and disinfectant testing
-MS office literate
