How We Use Your Data

At The Job Auction we pride ourselves of always being transparent and fair.

The following are our basic principles when handling your data:

  • Your data is your property and we will never use your data without your explicit permission.
  • We will never sell or use your data other than the intended purpose.
  • We will only save any of your files, if you ask us to do so (eg. profile files or CVs)
  • You are always in control of your data. Delete or change it any time.
  • We will not keep any of your data for longer than necessary.
  • Any data stored on our systems is protected by strict access controls.
  • Any data transferred to and from The Job Auction will be fully encrypted with the newest/strongest encryption technology.
  • You data will be kept and processed on our dedicated servers in a secure datacenter within the EU/EEA (European Economic Area) (ISO/IEC 27001)
  • Any data stored off-site (eg. backups) will be fully encrypted (strong). Off-site data is stored within the EU/EEA wherever possible.
  • We conduct periodic reviews of the data we hold and remove outdated data where necessary.

Username

Your username is the name you define when creating your account on The Job Auction. It is used to represent you across the platform.
This allows you to 'hide' your real name.
Your username is public and can be seen by everyone .

Changing your username is a complex process and may incur a fee.

First Name

We will mainly use your first name when we contact you. We will also send your first name to certain users you interact with.

Such users could be:
  • ...a winner of one of your auctions
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a task you made an offer for

Last Name

We will use your last name when we contact you. We may also send your last name to certain users you interact with.

Such users could be:
  • ...a winner of one of your auctions
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a task you made an offer for

Password

This is your personal password to access your account. We store your password in a hashed (encrypted) form using the latest encryption technology.
This means that The Job Auction will never see or know your actual password. Please make sure you keep your password safe and change it regularly.

Title (Optional)

We may use your title when we address you (eg. email).

Phone Number (Optional)

Your phone number may be passed on to certain users you interact with.

Such users could be:
  • ...a winner of one of your auctions
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a job you applied for
  • ...an owner of a task you made an offer for

The Job Auction will not directly use your phone number.

Date Of Birth (Optional)

We may use your date of birth to send you a happy birthday message (and gift) on your birthday. It will not be used for any other purpose.
Please note that you will have to be at least 18 years or older to use The Job Auction. Please also see the Terms & Conditions .

Company (Optional)

Your company or the company you are currently working for.
This field is used to pre-fill the company field when you post a Classic or Instajob™
It is not used for any other purpose.

Location

Your current location. Your location will be used to pre-fill the location for all types of listings (however, you can still set the location for each listing individually if you like).
It is also used to calculate the distance of a listing from your location (like estimates on commuting times etc.)
We do not need your exact location. A place, city or even country is enough.

Your Country

Your current country. Your current country is determined by your IP address at the time you first land on The Job Auction.
It is used to show you only relevant listings in your own country.

While you can change the country you are in (by clicking on the country flag), you cannot change the country that is associated with your profile (yet).
Change by clicking on the country flag to see ads/listings in other countries.
Currently it is not possible to directly change the country of your profile/account (only through deletion and re-creation of your account).

Where

Your IP Address

Your IP address is used to determine the country you are in.

We may save your IP address for fraud prevention and other security related purposes (where legally allowed or required).
You cannot change your IP address. It is provided to you by your network operator.

Timezone Offset

We receive the offset between your current time zone and UTC in minutes. We store and use this to adjust dates and times for your timezone when we show them to you.
This is determined by your browser, OS and your local time settings.

Your Purchases

We keep a record of all your purchases for taxation reasons as well as to prevent fraud.
This records may be kept even when you request your account be deleted (as far as required and permitted by law).
You can find all your purchases under Billing History .
You cannot change this once you have made a purchase.

Your Card Payment Data

When you pay for something on The Job Auction we will take your card details and your full name and forward them to our payment provider ( Barclaycard ).
The payment provider is fully PCI DSS certified and may store your card detail where required by law or for the prevention of fraud.
They may also store your card details if you requested for the card to be stored for future purchases.
Please note that The Job Auction will never store your card details directly in any way.
You can remove any stored cards in the Billing History section.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics of The Job Auction.
Google will set a Cookie to track you around the page.

Please note that you can only turn this off if you are logged in.

To disable ALL anonymous tracking on The Job Auction enable your browser's DO NOT TRACK (DNT) switch.

AddThis

AddThis collects anonymous usage statistics of The Job Auction and provides sharing facilities (share your listings to social media).
